Bethpage Water District Superintendent Takes to Air Waves

The Bethpage Water District (BWD) Board of Commissioners William J. Ellinger, John R. Sullivan and Gary S. Bretton remind residents that service will not stop just because temperatures take a plunge. District Superintendent Michael Boufis recently made two appearances on WCBS880 News Radio to provide winter tips and to reassure the community that high quality water service will continue despite the weather.

“The district is committed to working around the clock and in any weather to ensure the Bethpage community continues receiving an uninterrupted water supply,” said Bethpage Board of Commissioners Chairman William J. Ellinger. “District workers are out every day and at any time of the day to solve any issue a resident might have.”

During one of the coldest days so far this year, the Bethpage Water team was out fixing two water main breaks in order to ensure quick return to service. One team even worked to patch up a pipe after the sun had set. Despite the weather, the district is committed to providing the highest quality of service possible. To listen to how the team worked through the weather, listen here:

“Extreme winter weather can pose a threat to the uninterrupted water supply residents receive on a daily basis,” said Superintendent Michael Boufis. “Low temperatures can cause pipes to freeze and even burst. It is important residents take the proper precautions to ensure delivery of high quality water.”

Boufis urged residents with frozen pipes to warm towels in the washing machine and place them on the frozen pipes to help them thaw. For the full interview, listen here:
